Mike Edwards...

...is a highly accomplished didgeridoo player who is known for his rhythmically advanced and technically proficient playing style. Born in England he moved to Australia in 1993 to undertake a Ph.D. in the links between climate change and security in Pacific islands. Whilst in Australia, Mike began to play the didgeridoo and in 1999 he formed the band AXIS and recorded the CD "Playing in Tongues" (re-released as "Planet Didge" by ARC Music International). According to the Didgeridoo and Co Magazine, '"Playing in Tongues" was something of a benchmark, both in the Australian didj scene and overseas.

Since 1999, Mike has played at music festivals around the world and has recorded two further CDs. His latest releases: "Positive Form, Negative Space" and "A Moment in Time" have been experimental, melding the organic sound of the didgeridoo with electronic beats. Both albums have been released to international acclaim; "A Moment in Time" has been on the top 5 play lists in many European Clubs since its release in November 1994. Mike is currently working on a fourth 'classical' album that makes extensive use of percussion, cello and violin.

Mike has recently returned from a tour of the States where he was both performing and lecturing. When not playing didgeridoo, Mike teaches both school children and undergraduates about the cultural significance of the didgeridoo in Aboriginal society and some of the social and environmental issues facing Aboriginal people in Australia. Mike has lectured at Universities in Australia and the UK and most recently at Hong Kong University and Dartmouth College in the States.

Mike is now based in the United Kingdom and will be performing at festivals throughout Europe this summer.
